Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR)

The PPR course is a mandatory course for all skippers seeking Commercial Endorsement for the first time and all existing skippers at their revalidation.
Being a Commercially Endorsed Skipper carries with it many responsibilities and a need to understand a wide variety of areas such as the equipment needed on a vessel, the qualifications of crew you will employ and what your qualification allows you to do.
Each year thousands of people apply to the RYA for a commercial endorsement in order to use their RYA qualifications professionally either as skipper or crew. This involves anything from delivering a new yacht, running a super-yacht or driving a work boat with lifting and towing gear. Whatever your job is onboard, in the commercial world you are a professional seafarer. Therefore, you have a duty of care to crew, passengers and other water users and you will be held to account if things go wrong.
In conjunction with the MCA, the RYA created the Professional Practices and Responsibilities online course.
