ATLANTIC SAILING IN THE AZORES

SUMMER 2017

Here's a look back on our trip to the Azores in Summer 2017

The beauty of the Azores is just breathtaking. We sailed around the archipelago for 4 weeks, witnessing the most amazing ocean wild life and hiking through volcano craters, waterfalls, lakes, lush forests lined with millions of flowers, and the meeting the friendliest people.

We sailed to 7 of the 9 islands: Faial, Sao Jorge, Flores, Pico, Terceira, Sao Miguel, and Santa Maria. Each one special in its own way. Flores, the most western point of Europe, takes you back to a life of purest simplicity. There are no shops, because there is no need for shops. The farmers trade their products with the local fishermen and the mechanic gets paid in natural produce. Sao Jorge's Marina da Velas has crystal clear water and overlooks a cliff inhabited by screaming shearwater birds. And in Horta's marina, you meet sailors from all walks of life.

We met many interesting people from all over the world who each had special sailing and life stories. In the end, together we became a small floating village, with every yacht being of a different model and flag.

Today, August 13 2017, we slipped lines heading for our home base in Marina Lanzarote, but we will be back, Azores!
